The Friends

Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park is thirty one acres of beautiful and atmospheric woodland in the heart of East London

The Cemetery Park is managed and cared for by the dedicated staff and trustees of the Friends, for the local community, under a service level agreement (contract) with London Borough of Tower Hamlets.  We have three full time staff, based on site at the Soanes Centre.  We are supported by over 3,000 volunteers who take part in conservation work throughout the year. Our volunteers come from all walks of life including local people and corporate groups

The Friends run over 170 fun and educational events each year, including guided walks, family friendly events, history events, forest school, and training courses.  We work with a range of partners to run education, social development and mental health projects, and we play host to large arts festivals every year.  We also research the history of the site and the stories of the people buried here, and preserve and interpret them for future generations.

The Friends have won many awards for their innovative work and have been featured in national media in both the UK and Norway.
